Poppy bread for Poppy’s Party

A pleasing sight of three freshly made loaves for a big sociable gathering. For some reason these loaves which I tested for a Sainsbury’s recipe book are called ‘Monkey Bread’. I never did find out why.

The original recipe was an enriched dough with strong white flour, milk and butter, and grated cheese on top. It was lovely, but a little ‘pappy’. Here’s my adapted versions with a more wholesome 30% brown flour mix and a variety of seeds, nuts and a sundried tomato dough.
I used a large loose bottomed cake tin to keep the rolled dough balls in check whilst proving, and a good amount of egg wash to glaze the tops before baking.
